We have three new Renegade Rhythms drums in stock and up in the shop now, which were delivered just before we left for the Warwick Folk Festival. There were more, but they sold already!
As an extraordinary bodhrán performer and teacher himself, Mog applies his musician’s sensibility to the making of his Renegade Rhythms drums. The dynamic range and tonal variation of these bodhráns is outstanding. Renegade Rhythms drums are only available here at BOD or from Mog himself.
John’s own first bodhrán was a Mog, which he still plays regularly, 30 years later, and he has added three more to his collection over the years, each with their own unique look and sound and all much loved and played.
Two of the bodhráns just added to the shop are 15 inches in diameter and 6 inches deep, which gives the drums a more resonant, generally bass-ier sound than the standard 4 inch deep shells, whilst still delivering wonderful high pops, if that’s your style. Those two shells are finished with a paper imported from South Asia which is covered in white script on a charcoal black ground with thread like gold markings (the 686-24 and 687-24).
Also new is a 38 x 10 cm (15 x 4 inch) bodhrán covered in handpainted paper with a tortoise shell like design (669-23) on the far right in the photos above.
Just three bodhráns remain in stock from last summer’s delivery. These include a 42.5 cm x 10.5 cm (16 3/4 x 4 1/8 inches) drum covered in hand painted marbelised paper in a beautiful gold on blue-black design (658-23) first on the left in the picture below, another measuring 39 cm x 10.5 cm (15 3/8 x 4 1/8 inches) covered in hand made paper in a primarily blue and oatmeal coloured marbelised pattern (659-23) third from left in picture below, and for the purists among you, there is a 38 cm x 10 cm wooden shell (15 x 4 inches) bodhrán with a plain clear varnish finish (662-23), second from right in the picture below.
Mog’s bodhráns are in the hands of some renowned players including John Joe Kelly of Flook and Dave Pegg of Fairport Convention, and much sought after, as he makes relatively few each year. Read more about Mog on the Renegade Rhythms shop page.
