We are really pleased to announce that the new Calftone head featured on the BOD Deep is also available for all sizes of BODdrums.

Kit drummers may be familiar with Evans’s ’56 Calftone heads, a synthetic head of 7 mil Mylar which has been manufactured to mimic the sound and texture of natural calfskin tom and bass drum heads, typical of mid 20th century jazz, big band and orchestral sounds. It has a remarkably warm tone for a synthetic head with a nice, not too aggressive attack and a bright sound.

We have adapted these heads for the bodhrán by taping the perimeter and texturising the inside of the head so you have some grip when using your hand or a soundbar to bend your sound.

We created the BOD Calftone for our new Deep drums but it sounds fantastic on the entire range of BODdrums. John has been using the head on an 18 inch BOD at ceilidhs and both the band and the sound engineer love the sound coming through the sytem. He’s also used the Calftone (without a mike) on his 14 inch standard BOD for sessions and the other players have really liked the warm and mellow sound in the more intimate setting of the pub.

The new Calftone heads are available now in our shop on the 14 inch, 16 inch and 18 inch BODdrums – just use the drop down box to pick the head you want on your new drum.
