Description
A traditional double ended style of beater, the ME-4 is shaped with heavy 11.5 mm diameter ellipsoid ends which taper very gradually to an 8mm mid section. Made of makassar, which is a very hard and heavyweight wood, this will take aggressive playing styles and rim shots in stride. 23 cm long and 21 grams.
Makassar is one of the hardest and heaviest woods in the world, making it a perfect material for tippers. Note that Makassar is often called “makassar ebony” because the two woods look similar, but it is not ebony. There are two key differences between ebony and makassar: first, ebony is a solid dark colour, nearly black, whereas makassar has a beautiful lighter toned natural striping, and second, ebony is nearly 50% more expensive than makassar.
