Description
BOD are pleased to offer our customers a very special edition unitHED Bodhrán Kit comprised of the Rainbow CoreLine Classic (£355.00), a 40 cm HEDCase (£94.00) and a Rainbow Tipper (£27.00) for a reduced kit price of £455.00
See further below for the details of the unitHED project that inspired these products.
The bodhrán in this kit is the unitHED Christian Hedwitschak CoreLine Classic finished with a beautiful “Save the Rain Forest” Rainbow veneer in lieu of the usual black cherry veneer.
Designed with a larger, 40 cm diameter and relatively flat rim, the CoreLine Classic has a more open, more ‘traditional bodhrán’ sound. By design, this model delivers more sound volume than the Universal model. For a special look, Christian works to keep the dorsal (spinal) line of the skin centred on the playing surface.
40 cm diameter, 13 cm deep, approx 1660 grams, “Save the Rainforest” Rainbow veneer. Tool-less 8 point tuning system. Tapered skin mounted flush with outer frame and taped for a harmonic sound.
As the name CoreLine suggests, these models are high-quality instruments focused on what is essential, on the core of the matter. A CoreLine model is an all-purpose tool, not bound to a certain sound or a specific playing style, which is why the CoreLine is a great choice for both beginners, learning and developing their own style, and more experienced players who are looking for an outstanding drum at the best possible price.
The unitHED Rainbow Tipper from Stevie Moises is a classic double ended solid wooden tipper with a balanced “butterfly” shape. The tipper has an overall length of 230mm, with 17 mm diameter ends which taper smoothly to a diameter of 7mm at the base of a centred knurl, and weighs approximately 24 grams. Perfect for beginners, this tipper has a powerful sound, with a lot of bass, suitable for all playing styles, and fits the hand nicely, ensuring a comfortable grip.
The HEDCase 40cm has a well padded interior to protect the drum, a comfortable padded handle and adjustable backpack straps so you can carry it easily. The HEDCase includes a removable flat case for your beaters, with a strap so you can easily hang it from a mike stand and always have your favourite tippers close at hand. There is a skin protection bag which fits into the hollow of the drum so you can carry anything else you need, without damaging the drum head, and easily unpack when you reach your gig. An interior pocket holds the tipper case securely, and an exterior flat zipped pocket takes any other items, even a tablet computer.
The “Save the Rainforest” Rainbow veneer comes from a supplier committed to protecting the tropical rainforests and endangered hardwoods. Working with woods from sustainable, fast-growing timber, their specialised processing and colouring techniques allow them to create striking veneers without using endangered tropical hardwoods. The company is also committed to a project of re-forestation in Guatamala, funded by a percentage of every sale.
The unitHED Project
Christian Hedwitschak (bodhrán maker), Stevie Moises (tipper maker) and Rolf Wagels (shop owner, advisor, teacher and player) have worked closely together for years promoting the bodhrán in Germany and abroad. In Christian’s words:
Until now, the three of us have deliberately avoided making political statements in a business context. We felt that staying politically neutral was the professional thing to do.
Given what’s happening in the world right now, we’ve reconsidered. We want to be clear about where we stand. Because the issues that matter to us aren’t really about party politics – they’re about basic humanity.
With our project unitHED, we’re making a clear statement about the values we stand for, live by, and will defend. Our rainbow products are more than a symbol – to us, they’re a beacon. They reflect our everyday attitude and the way we think, design, make and share our work.
The three of us don’t always agree on everything. We argue our points, challenge each other, and sometimes have to work hard to find common ground – but we always come back to the same thing: what we share is stronger than what divides us. That’s been the foundation of our success.
We stand FOR:
• recognising the dignity of every human being – without exception
• democracy
• freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of the press
• sexual self-determination
• non-violence
• respect for international law
We stand AGAINST:
• fascism
• abuse of power
• all forms of physical and psychological violence
