Combining a synthetic drum head with a solid spun aluminium shell has given the classic bodhrán a whole new vocabulary of tones from deep, soft and mellow, to bright and crisp, full of attack and varied expression. The BODdrum will take you well beyond the traditional folk music sound into Jazz, Classical and World rhythms as well as fusions beyond any defined musical boundary – anywhere your imagination can take you.

The 14 inch drum size refers to the diameter of the standard drum head with the actual drum diameter being a little more than this. The drum depth is a standard 100 mm, and there is a six point tuning mechanism using the supplied tuning wrench.

The Edge Control Centre Spot head is a snare head, made of frosted pale grey single ply 14 mil film with an added 3 mil centre spot on the reverse. This enhances durability but also adds focus and attack to the centre of the skin. Evans’ Edge Control technology removes troublesome mid-range overtones that can muddy the sound. The sound is clean and crisp, full of attack.

The Hydraulic head has a thin slick of oil between two sheets of 6.5 and 7.5 mil black film. The result is a fat, deep and short sound, very resonant and warm. You may see bubbles in the oil between the sheets – this is natural and actually, we like the lava lamp vibe it gives!

The Calftone head is an Evans ’56 Calftone which we have customised for the bodhrán player. This 7 mil mylar based synthetic head is designed to replicate the warm traditional calf skin head sound of classic mid-20^th century Big Band and Jazz kit drumming. We have taped the Calftone to calm the cross harmonics and we re-finished the interior of the head to give a better texture for the bodhrán player who likes to work the inside of the skin whilst playing.

The Edge Control head features the Evans Edge Control technology which removes the mid range overtones, so you get a defined attack and short sustain.

The head is removable, so you always have the option of swapping out the skin – experiment and make the sound your own.

The standard finish on our BODdrums is a matte black powder-coat finish, which gives a really cool and stunning appearance; no other bodhrán style drum looks anything like this. The powder-coat finish is to a full automotive standard, hard and reliable.

On the other hand, we can do just about anything for a finish: custom paint colours from the RAL colour palette, airbrush artwork, anodise, etch, plate or polish, you can choose.
