Description
Snakewood is one of the most valuable woods in the world, and also one of the densest and heaviest, making it ideal for drum beaters, particularly for the more long and slender traditional style tippers which Stevie Moises makes.
The Snakewood SW 2 has a classic drum stick shape designed for single ended playing, with a slightly rounded butt end. The tipper has a 9mm diameter body which narrows down behind an 8 mm tip and flares slightly wider at the butt end. Overall length is 23.5 cm and the weight is 18 grams. The dense snakewood gives you a crisp and vivid sound from an elegant and slender tipper.
For comparison, the Makassar ME-A (with a slightly differently shaped tip) is 9.5 mm at the tip, tapering to 7mm just behind the tip, then gradually flaring to 13mm at the butt end. It is 26 cm long and 19 grams in weight. So, not a great difference in weight, but the SW 2 has a slightly shorter and more slender shape overall. See the photo gallery for comparison images.
The beautiful markings of snakewood mean every tipper is unique – see the two different tippers in our photos! The finish is silky smooth, with a natural wax finish to bring up the full beauty of this wood. Stevie guarantees the quality of his snakewood tippers, to have an even surface with no cracks or splits and beautiful markings. On his own site, Stevie says
I am very proud and happy to offer the snakewood tippers in brilliant quality – an optical delight and a pleasure to the ear!
