Description

We wanted to design some beaters that were a bit shorter and easier to handle for smaller hands and single ended playing styles. We find taking a few centimeters off the length of a typical beater creates a very lively style and sound, and gives us much more control.

Working with Stevie Moises we created the BODBass: a bundle of 3mm bamboo dowels which have been distressed to create a brushy end.  The beater comes with an O-ring so you can create your preferred sound: taking the O ring down close to the end creates the effect of a more solid beater, but bamboo keeps the sound light.  Push the O ring up closer to the grip to open up the bamboo for a lovely velvety attack and brushy sound, ideal to create a softer mood or accompany vocals.

BODBass is a 21 cm long bundle of 19 x 3 mm distressed bamboo dowels, approximately 27 grams of weight.  When compared to the BODBeater (see photo gallery), you can see the length is all forward of the grip.

By comparison, Stevie’s own MellMo is 24.5 cm long and weighs 25 grams, with the classic wooden MoGrip.  The BODBass is a tiny bit heavier, but 3.5 cm shorter, so it definitely feels more agile.
